Paula Randazza (RAZ) '88

Nashua, NH
Major: Sociology
Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs, Rivier University

During my time at MCLA (then North Adams State College), I was involved in all facets of campus life including student activities, orientation, residence life, and Student Government. My MCLA experience and its mentors and role models led me to pursue a career in Higher Education Administration. I have served in the student affairs departments at Springfield College, where I earned a Master's Degree and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study, at Assumption College, where I served as the Assistant Director of Residential Life, and currently at Rivier University where I have held various positions during the last 20 years.

As a yearly contributor to the Alumni Fund and a Class Agent, I remain grateful and dedicated to MCLA for all that is has given me. I am running to continue my position on the Alumni Association Board of Directors as a means of giving back to the institution and to help bring greater alumni awareness and connection to MCLA.

West Lebanon, NH
Major: Mathematics and Secondary Education
Assistant Director of Class Activities in Alumni Relations, Dartmouth College

When I look back on my time at MCLA, I think of the friends made, the experiences in and out of the classroom, and the amazing professional and personal mentors met. All of this led me to pursue a career in higher education and, more specifically, in Alumni Relations. Having served as a class agent since graduation, I look forward to taking the next step and increasing my involvement as a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, where I will call upon my young alumni and student engagement experience to bring alumni together in meaningful ways.

David Ortendahl '05

Wilbraham, MA
Major: Business Administration and Fine and Performing Arts
Director of Corporate Relations, Worcester Polytechnic Institute

I am just completing my first term on the MCLA Alumni Association Board of Directors and I am excited for the opportunity to run for re-election! As Chair of the Outreach Committee for the board, I have worked hard to make the committee more active. Over the past two years, I have collaborated with the alumni office and fellow board members to restructure the Outreach Committee and “adopt” the Class Agent program as a strategic initiative and assisted in facilitating a Class Agent meeting this spring as a first step in training and outreach. I feel that there is much more to be done in this area, and I would be honored to serve again for another three-year term.

As an alumnus, I graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2005 from the Honors program with degrees in business administration and fine and performing arts.  As a student, I was heavily involved in campus life by serving in SGA (including two consecutive terms as student trustee), three years as a resident advisor, performed with Dance Company, and was a founder and president of the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship club. I am now married to my college sweetheart Melissa (Gumlaw) Ortehdahl '05 and have three young boys at home.

With over a decade of work experience in Higher Education, I am currently the director of corporate relations at WPI where I connect students to a range of employers including top Fortune companies and high-tech startups for internships and jobs at a top-ranked career center. I look forward to continuing our good work on the Outreach Committee for the board with a goal to increase student/alumni connections and engagement opportunities.

Brandon Pender '07

Jamaica, NY
Major: English Communications
Development Associate, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc.

I graduated from MCLA with a degree in English Communications. Energetic on campus while a student, I was captain on the men's basketball team, president of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee, and vice president of the Multicultural Student Society.  I acted as a peer advisor, was a member of the intramural staff, Dance Company, and the African American Studies Club.  In addition, I worked in the president's office my senior year as an assistant to the communications specialist.

In 2009 I joined the alumni board of directors before stepping down in 2010 to become the College's first alumni relations coordinator and later the web and communications manager. As an employee at MCLA, I was charged with engaging and involving young alumni, working with student affairs to assist with the transition for seniors, and was responsible for web traffic on the College's website and social media platforms.

Currently living in New York City, I work in the development office at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. Although I now play a different role professionally, I have never overlooked what MCLA has done for me and the importance of giving back. I am running for a seat on the Alumni Association Board of Directors so that I can help other alumni to embrace the privilege and responsibility of being a member of the Alumni Association and the benefits of staying connected with the College.

Sarah Flint Wood '07

Plymouth, MA
Major: Education

I was a legacy student at MCLA graduating in 2007. My father is a 1978 graduate of the then North Adams State College. I fell in love with MCLA on a family trip out to North Adams to see where my father attended college. While attending MCLA, I was an active student leader and held positions as a student ambassador, resident advisor, class officer, tutor, and a Sigma Gamma Phi sister. In addition, I was a sister of the Sigma Gamma Phi sorority.

I am running for re-election to the Alumni Association Board of Directors to fulfill my goal as a member of the board to increase alumni and current student involvement in the Alumni Association in order to help them remain involved, engaged and connected with the College. I keep in contact with many of my friends from MCLA and have met many alumni through work and mutual friends. I look forward to continuing to help the Alumni Board work towards achieving their goals by networking and being an active member of the Alumni Association.

Amey Blackburn Bissonnette '09

Berkley, MA
Major: Sociology
Director of Development, Global Learning Charter Public School

I am a 2009 graduate of MCLA. As a student at MCLA, I was a member of the softball and volleyball teams, and the Student Athlete Advisory Council, in which I served as president for two years. I was fortunate enough to attend the NCAA National Development Conference, bringing back new ideas and programs to campus, many of which are still in place within the Athletics Department today. I also served as an orientation leader for three years and participated in numerous student activities on campus.

MCLA has opened my world to a multitude of opportunities. I was recently appointed Director of Development at the Global Learning Charter Public School in New Bedford, MA. I have seven years of progressive experience in development, working for the MCLA Advancement team, the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University and the Brown Annual Fund and, most recently, as Development Manager for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. I am driven by my passion to ensure every student has the opportunity to participate in exceptional educational opportunities. I look forward to the opportunity to continue serving on the MCLA Alumni Board of Directors as a way to continue engaging the alumni community and ensure current and future students receive the same or better experiences as I did on campus.

Kaite (Bonneville) Rosa ’10

Southborough, MA
Major: English/Communications
Senior Director of Content Marketing, Payfactors

A 2010 graduate, my degree in English/Communications and the experiences I had while a student have profoundly impacted my personal and professional paths.
While a student, I was an active member of the MCLA community. I was the ’09 – ’10 Hardman Scholar, and Editor-in-Chief of the Beacon newspaper. I served as vice president of Pi Upsilon Omega sorority, was an AmeriCorps Scholars in Service, a 3-year LEAD Academy staff member, and interned with the College’s Communications Office. I was also very involved in the College community through Peer Advisors, Admission, Center for Service, and the Student Government Association. Without a doubt, it is these leadership, civic engagement, and educational opportunities that lead me to where I am now.

Every day I use my English/Communications degree and the skills I developed during my time at MCLA as Senior Director of Content Marketing at Payfactors. In this role, I am responsible for all of Payfactors’ marketing content and communications. Prior, I held content-focused roles at Boston-area companies including Virgin Pulse, Lionbridge, and Brafton. I have also reported for Boston-based online publication VentureFizz, and New York City-based online publications Mobile Marketer and Luxury Daily.

My MCLA education and the alumni community have played integral roles in my life. I am eager for the chance to bring my experiences and perspective to the Alumni Board, and look forward to using my passion for the College to deepen the connections and engagement without our community.
Thank you for considering me to serve as an advocate for our alumni network as a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Jonathan Monroy '13

Lawrence, MA
Major: Business Administration
Controlled Environments Marketing, Vaisala Inc.

As a first generation American, graduating from MCLA has been one of the most significant milestones in my life. It's one that I would never have realized if it were not for the MCLA community, the connections, and the leadership experience I gained while a student.

During my time as an undergrad, I was president of the Latin American Society, a member of Student Government and Pi Upsilon Pi, and worked for the Alumni Office. After graduating, I recognized the untapped potential of the Pi Upsilon Pi alumni network community - particularly its ability to impact the fraternity's annual Cystic Fibrosis philanthropy. In 2016, I kick started the formation of Pi Upsilon Pi's alumni board. Together with the active (student) brothers, I lead the organization of a North Adams-based 5K race benefiting Cystic Fibrosis. Since founding the fraternity's alumni board, donations to the annual Cystic Fibrosis philanthropy have increased tremendously.

Today, I work as North American Marketing Manager for Vaisala, a role I secured four years ago through my MCLA alumni network. The bonds I made at MCLA have continued to guide and impact me as an adult, but I see too few of my peers actively involved in the alumni community. As a member of the Alumni Board, I will work to actively change that by broadening and strengthening my fellow NASC/MCLA graduates' bonds with the College.
