Numbers

Giullia McDonald '18

Giullia McDonald ’18 is good with numbers. Between her love for history, her musical abilities, and her academic studies in business administration, MCLA is the right place for her to explore her expansive interests.

“I love history because I thought Henry VIII was very interesting; I like math because I like puzzles and music is sort of like a puzzle, so my interests kind of go together,” she explained.

Even though she’s majoring in business administration, she has a deep fondness for history.

“I believe that everyone should know our history so that they can learn from it,” she said.

These aren’t words that McDonald takes lightly; they are actually words that she has chosen to live by. Her participation in the Phonathon program speaks to that very mantra. Speaking on the phone with alumni not only raises much needed scholarship dollars, but gives her the opportunity to learn more about the College’s rich history and about the experiences of those who came before her.

In addition, as someone who directly benefits from aid provided through the Alumni Fund, McDonald takes pride in being a part of the Phonathon program. She finds that working as part of the Phonathon team towards a set goal is fulfilling as it’s her way of giving back.

“I benefit greatly from the Alumni Fund and what it offers to my fellow students and me,” she commented. “It feels good to know that I am doing as much as I can to try and keep that going for my peers and those that will come in the future.”

Coming from a private high school, she already understands the importance of alumni giving. According to McDonald, alumni can make a difference regardless of where they choose to give.

“Whether the gift is designated to the Alumni Fund for scholarship aid or goes towards Athletics, those funds are going to directly help someone,” she revealed. “I simply want other students to have the opportunities that I had and will continue to have at MCLA,” she stated. “It would be great if by the time I reach the end of my college career there are even more opportunities for future students.”
