Class Notes Ronald J. Cordon 7/26/2024
Ronald Cordon '82 has shared this inspiring story for as he puts it "to my classmates and those that came after our time".

I came to North Adams from Miami, Fl to study accounting. I was not a top student but I determined to make it and sought assistance from those counselors who were put in place to help me in time of struggle. I can’t report that the teachers cared except for my speech professor. I was the victim of poor education for African American students in urban America. My vocabulary limits made it hard to understand what the book or teacher is saying. I had to look up many words and the words in the definition to do my homework and to prepare for an exam but I persevered and graduated. I couldn’t find an accounting job but my education and exposure to business practices assisted me in starting a business within a year of graduation and 5 full time employees within 4 years. As I was operating the business, I found myself falling in love with knowledge which led me to law school 5 years after college. I graduated law school early by loading up my prerequisites courses. I took the Florida bar 2 months after and open an office as a sole practitioner 5 months later upon being licensed. I had the privilege of practicing for 30 years as my own boss and I’m now retired. This message is to let others know to believe in themselves. Sometimes circumstances have prevented you from knowing how smart or intelligent you are. It’s up to you to go for and block out those who know absolutely nothing about the real you.
