Other Ways to Support MCLA

Planned Giving Opportunities: There are many different reasons to consider making a planned gift to the College. It is a wonderful way to leave your legacy on this great institution and ensure that the opportunities offered at MCLA continue into the future.

There are many types of planned giving opportunities. It can be as simple as naming the College in your will or creating a Charitable Remainder Trust. Other options include gift annuities, life insurance gifts, and estate plans. Through a bequest to MCLA, you can give a gift that fits your financial and philanthropic goals that you can be proud of for years to come.

If you are interested in learning more about making a planned gift to the College, or would like to inform us that you have included MCLA in your will, please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at 413.662.5224 or advancement@mcla.edu. By informing us that you have left MCLA in your will we can ensure that your gift is designated to the area of your wishes.

Creating a Named Scholarship: Numerous students who would otherwise be unable to afford college have achieved their dreams, thanks to the support of our donors. In addition to financial aid, the College currently awards nearly 100 scholarships to talented and deserving students, made possible by generous donations of alumni and friends - and the list continues to grow. Please consider establishing your own scholarship, or one in memory or in honor of someone.

Sponsoring a Bench: MCLA's bench program seeks donors interested in making a lasting impression on campus. Benches are placed on campus and cared for in perpetuity. These are a wonderful way to honor a loved one or make a gift in their memory.

Qualified Charitable Distribution from an IRA:  A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from an IRA is available to you if you are 70 1/2 years old or older.  For an IRA distribution to qualify as a QCD the check from the IRA must be made payable to MCLA Foundation, and cannot exceed $100,000 per year.  You will not have to pay any income taxes on the gift.  A QCD is not tax deductible; however, it allows you to withdraw the funds from your IRA without creating taxable income so that you benefit without having to itemize your tax deductions.  The QCD will also count towards your annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA.  The QCD can be used for any level of donation to MCLA, from making your annual gift to establishing an endowed fund.  Please consult your investment and tax advisors for more details.

For more information about any of the giving opportunities above please contact the Office of Institutional Advancement at 413.662.5224 or advancement@mcla.edu.
